Dr Dominic O'Sullivan

Dr Dominic O''SullivanDr O'Sullivan graduated from Bristol University in 1991 and spent 3 years working in Oral and Maxillofacial surgery departments in first a dental teaching and then later an NHS general hospital.  Following this he entered general dental practice and later the community dental service. 

In 1996 he returned to academic and specialist restorative dental training.  He worked for 3 years on the European Implant Analysis Demonstration project evaluating the novel use of resonance frequency analysis to monitor dental implants during healing.  During the project he worked with colleagues in Imperial College, London; Barcelona, Spain; Naples & Palermo, Italy and the Brånemark clinic Gothenburg, Sweden.  Collaborating on research with Prof Lars Sennerby from the Department of Biomaterials Research in Gothenburg University and Prof Neil Meredith from Leeds University.  He joined the Department of Oral and Dental Science in the University of Bristol in 2000 and completed a PhD evaluating the effects of implant geometry upon implant primary stability in 2001. 

In 2001 he entered a 5 year specialist restorative dental training programme, during which time he continued to publish articles in implant research in international peer reviewed research journals.  He was appointed a Consultant Senior Lecturer in 2006 at Bristol University and holds an honorary Consultant position with the United Bristol Healthcare Trust.

He continues to work with a diverse team of clinicians and material scientists in the area of dental implant research with particular interests in implant success and failure and the effects of implant surfaces on cellular response and microbial contamination.

Clinically he provides a specialist treatment and treatment planning service at the Bristol Dental Hospital where he is involved in teaching restorative dentistry and dental implantology at undergraduate and postgraduate level.

He provides a specialist restorative dental and dental implant referral service at The Market Place Dental Practice, 1a Little Brittox, Devizes, Wiltshire, SN10 1AR.
